Washington University Football “B1!” Being a football player in high school today is an experience that most will remember the rest of their lives. Wearing the jersey on game day brings a surge of pride and self esteem to every member of the team. After a bad play, or a tough game, when your players feel bad, the team aspect helps each of your players move forward to the next challenge. Some of the students in your school go through that “tough” feeling on a daily basis, and struggle to “move forward”, as they do not have a “team” to pick up their spirits. Washington University Football has partnered with the Jason Foundation to make a difference in the high school communities. WE WANT YOU TO JOIN US IN THESE EFFORTS! We believe your team can have an impact in the lives of these students who wish to connect with a team –YOUR TEAM! We feel it could impact the life of your school, and the attitude of your team. When you invite us into your school our mission will be to CHALLENGE YOUR ATHLETES TO: Be Strong Team Members. Extend their Team Building Skills and Leadership into the School Community. Have the Courage to Make a Difference in Someone’s life.
What do we do? The Washington University Football Team will come into your school and spend an hour with your team. Our goal is to help your team come closer together and to help your team become a resource to bring your school community closer together. How do we do it? We will help your team experience, in a controlled fashion, what it feels like to need the help of another. We then give them the tools they need be that other person.
What do you have to do? Provide an hour during the day, in a classroom, with your football players. Keep an open mind and have fun. What about after we leave? Have your team talk about what we did and said that day. Have them check out the two online resources we will provide and consider taking the B1 Pledge. Be the one with the courage to make a difference in someone’s life. We will also follow up after your team has had the chance to take the pledge. Testimony from one of our schools “The Jason Foundation's B1 Project provides the vehicle for athletes to expand their circle of support by bravely addressing the serious problems of bullying and teen depression. This program takes the leadership and team spirit of high school sports to a new level. The concept of engaging athletes in an activity that is not only fun but can be transformed into a lesson on character and empathy is amazing. Great program with a much needed message.” Cheryl Logston, School Social Worker, Dist. 201- Belleville Township High School East.
